I am a huge lover of all breakfast foods, especially the sweet carb filled one! I can easily go for breakfast foods any time of the day. You name it, I love it whether it’s pancakes, waffles, or French toast! I love adding some fresh fruit on top or drizzling them with some delicious maple syrup. Lately I’ve seen a ton of different protein pancake mixes on the market and thought I’d put them to the test. Check out the results of our protein waffle review!

Luckily I have some willing taste testers always available to put up with my shenanigans. My son and his friends will easily say yes when food is involved. Another great thing about having them rate the food in this challenge is that they aren’t used to healthier versions of things (since they are young adults and basically eat anything and everything!) so they can give me an honest opinion. This protein waffle review was a hit for them because who doesn’t love breakfast foods?!

This was a super fun review to do and although it took a while to make so many mini pancakes, it was well worth it. In retrospect, I probably should have used the regular waffle maker but the mini ones are just so darn cute! I just couldn’t resist.

Alright, let’s get to this protein waffle review! We put 3 different protein pancake mixes to the test, all made according to the instructions without any additional ingredients.

Birch Benders Protein Pancake Mix

Trader Joe’s Protein Pancake Mix

Place your bets everyone! Who do you think won this challenge??
Well, Birch Benders won the title in this challenge. According to my taste testers, these were the softest, fluffiest, and most like regular waffles than the other mixes. In fact, they said that if they hadn’t been told that these were protein waffles that they wouldn’t have known the difference from regular waffles.
Coming in second was Pamcakes Buttermilk Protein Pancake Mix. Pamcakes took the overall flavor award on this one though. My taste testers like the flavor on these the most saying that they had a hint of vanilla and weren’t at all bland. They did say that they were a little bit on the dry side which I found interesting as Pamcakes has the highest fat content of all three brands.
Trader Joe’s Protein Pancake Mix came in last place solely due to the bland flavor. Everyone like the texture of the mix but weren’t pleased by the taste. One of the taste testers stated “these waffles taste like they’re healthy”.
All in all, every last waffle was devoured and enjoyed with some butter and maple syrup.
