The Real Deal on Turmeric

The Real Deal on Turmeric | Adapted Eats

One of the greatest things about society recently is the health craze. I absolutely love it! I’m not sure if it’s just the people that I surround myself with, who I follow on social media, or how I lead my life but I truly feel like so many have taken an initiative to live healthier lives. I to have changed a lot over the past few years and will try anything in the name of health. Well, most things! So, when Turmeric started flooding my social media feeds I had to try it too! I brewed it with my coffee, made teas with it, and sprinkled it on my oats! My favorite thing by far was how beautiful the color made everything. But did you know that the minimal amounts that are consumed this way really don’t make much of an impact? Here’s the real deal on Turmeric and how much you’d need to consume for it to actually make a difference.

Health Benefits of Turmeric

In summary,  Turmeric contains Curcumin, which is a natural anti-inflammatory and powerful antioxidant. Curcumin also increases growth of new neurons in the brain which helps delay and even reverse certain brain diseases such as depression and Alzheimer’s. Curcumin has also helps lower the risk of heart disease by improving function of the lining in blood vessels.

All in all, Turmeric, which contains Curcumin has a ton of benefits when consumed properly. So, how much Turmeric do you really need to make an impact and how should it be consumed?

How to Best Utilize Turmeric

For optimal health benefits, you should be consuming between 500-1000 milligrams of  curcuminoids daily. Depending on the source, one teaspoon of Turmeric contains about 200 milligrams of curcuminoids. So, if you’re adding it to coffee, baking and cooking with it daily, and finding other ways to incorporate it into your daily routine, then you may be getting the suggested amount.

Another thing to note about Turmeric is that not all of it is easily absorbed by your gut. An easy way of getting Turmeric to work is magic best is by pairing it with black pepper. Black pepper increases the bodies ability to absorb this powerful anti-inflammatory spice.

Golden Teas, Coffees, and Oats

Are these really the best ways to consume Turmeric? Probably not, but they’re still so beautiful to eat! I’m not saying don’t consume these things, they still have their benefits and if done right, you’re definitely doing yourself a solid health favor. I really do love adding Turmeric to my oats because I love the flavor and the color. It makes it fun to eat,  am I right?! If you’re looking at the easiest way to consume Turmeric and get all the great health benefits from it, you can find it in capsule form pretty much everywhere.
